JCHYK Update– CPR training and ‘Crunch for a Cause’

Gurudev would often say ‘Youth are not useless but used less’. A striking example of that is the JCHYK program at CHinmaya Gurukul which puts the potential of youth to full use.

The following report comes from our JCHYK Nethraa

JCHYK CPR demo with Dr/Lalitha

We had a wonderful CPR Training for JCHYKs on Mar 29th. First, Dr. Lalitha described how the American Heart Association has reported that there have been more incidents of cardiac arrest since 2019 and that their main goal is to train more people/youth in Bystander CPR in a way they can train others. Dr. Lalitha explained CPR steps to and how it is applied differently for adults, two year olds and under 10 year old kids. Then, all JCHYKs went to one of the three stations each had an adult CPR manikin used to simulate the administration of CPR. Each station had a CPR-certified person to guide us through the steps. Finally, we did a Q&A with Dr. Lalitha where we asked questions related to CPR and discussed ending thoughts on the overall session!

The following report comes from Laxmi Nachammai one of the adult coordinators of our JCHYK program.

Crunch for a Cause

As part of our Samuha initiatives, each team explores a scripture-based topic and brings it to life through a project and presentation.

This time, Sivananda Samuha focused on a Healthy Indian Diet and created a Chipotle-style Indian bowl and sold it to Balavihar parents. The project was called “Crunch for a Cause”.The proceeds were dedicated toward building the next wing of Chinmaya Gurukul.

On March 29th, the kids enthusiastically planned, prepared, and sold the bowls, each thoughtfully put together with balanced, nutritious ingredients.

With incredible support from parents and the unmatched JCHYKS spirit, the initiative was a great success, raising $413.

Living our pledge:
“Giving more than what we take.”

Thank you to all our JCHYK coordinators and all the kids for coming up with such innovative ways to help the community .
