Republic Day Competitions 2024

Our Republic Day competitions are for 3rd grade and older kids only.
The younger kids participate in Republic Day Fancy dress parade on Jan 28th in the Assembly.

1/27 Saturday – Republic day competitions 3-4:30pm – All competitions
Art 3-4:30pm in Dining room
Writing 3:00-4:00pm in Auditorium
Speech 3:30-4:30pm in M2, M3 rooms
Story telling – Video to be submitted online

1/28 Sunday – Republic Day Parade and celebration – in assembly for Shishu Vihar – 2nd gr kids

2/4 Sunday – Republic Day Competitions 10:30am-11:30am – Writing and Speech only
Writing 10:30-11:30pm in Dining room
Speech 10:30-11:30pm in M2, M3 rooms

This year the theme is centered around Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda as it is the 108th anniversary of Swamiji’s birth (May 8th 1916). This is our opportunity to celebrate and share His tremendous legacy as an expression of love and gratitude.

Please encourage your kids to participate. Do signup your kids to help the planning. 

Walk-ins are welcome!

Art topic – Design a poster by choosing any one quote by Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda that captures the spirit/essence of his message. Pick from these quotes:

1. Be like a flower – Give Happiness and Fragrance to all
2. Keep Smiling for me
3. Gurudev shows us the path from darkness to light
4. Children are not vessels to be filled but lamps to be lit
5. What we have is a GIFT from HIM. What we do with what we have is our GIFT to HIM
6. LOVE is to human hearts what the sun is to flowers
7. Study, Pray, Meditate. But Love. Love is what life is all about
8. Happiness depends on what you can give, not on what you can get
9. Make your house, a temple
10. With Knowledge, practice gives DOUBLE QUICK RESULTS

Rules for Art: 

Please plan to come 5 min before the start of the competition so the kids can settle down.

1. 11X14 size drawing sheet will be provided to all.
2. Painting is not allowed. Kids can use only dry media: color pencils, crayons, oil pastels, charcoals, and markers. 
3. Before submitting, put your first and last name, grade, Session(S1,S2,S3, Marietta), teacher’s name on the back of the sheet.
4. Write the Quote you have chosen and optionally a brief description of the painting on the back.

Writing topics:
Elementary school – My Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda
Middle school – Gurudev says “Life must be fully lived…”. Elaborate in your own words with examples, analogies and anectodes.
High school – Imbibing Gurudev’s qualities in your life.

Rules for writing: 

Please join 5 mins early as the instructions will be given at the beginning. 

1. You will hand write the essay during the competition on the paper we provide. Please bring pencils. 
2. The essay should be 2-3 pages in length. Try to be creative adding quotes, names, BV learnings.
3. Put your  first and last name, grade, Session(S1,S2,S3, Marietta), teacher’s name on the top of the essay. Add page numbers before turning it in

Speech topics: 6th gr and up

a) Significance of Gurudev’s work in modern day
b) Share why it is a blessing to have Gurudev in your life

Rules for Speech:  (You can do speech competition after writing)

1. Prepare your speech so that when you present it to the audience it is 3-4 mins long. It should be a minimum of 3 mins and not more than 4.5mins. .You may use a note card for cues but cannot read it verbatim.
2. Points will be given for:
Length of speech – not too short or too long
Quality of content (good beginning, middle, ending, using BV learnings)
Effective delivery and eye contact with the participants.

Story telling Video topic – for kids 3rd gr.-5th gr.
Make a 2-3min video sharing a story you like about Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda.
