H. H. Swami Swaroopananda, Global Head, Chinmaya Mission
Swami Swaroopananda is a globally renowned spiritual leader and the current head of the Chinmaya Mission, an international organization dedicated to the dissemination of Vedanta, the science of self-realization and the essence of the Hindu spiritual texts. He is the Chancellor of Chinmaya University (Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth) which integrates timeless wisdom from the Vedas, with modern, innovative pedagogy and Chairman of Chinmaya International Residential School in Coimbatore, one of the most well-respected and well-performing residential schools of India.
An able administrator and a dynamic leader, his watchful eye and acumen keeps him abreast with developments of any consequence in the over 350 Centers under his guard. Devotion to his Guru, Swami Chinmayananda, and obeisance to his philosophy, guides his decision making and governance.
With a profound understanding of the ancient scriptures and an engaging, contemporary approach, Swami Swaroopananda inspires countless individuals through his teachings, which blend traditional wisdom with practical insights for modern living. Spiritual Journey
Born and brought up in the bustling city of Mumbai, the young man who would later become Swami Swarooopananda had always been convinced that beyond life’s superficial, everyday joys and sorrows, there was something more enduring and satisfying. As a child he heard from his grandmother many religious stories based on the great Indian epics and the history of saints. These stories suddenly came to life, acquiring new meaning and depth, when as an adolescent he encountered Swami Chinmayananda.
His heart completely moved and inspired, in 1984 he gave up his family’s thriving business to undergo intensive training under Swami Chinmayananda and Swami Tejomayananda at Sandeepany Sadhanalaya, Mumbai. He was initiated into the monastic order by Swami Chinmayananda in 1992 and was given the name Swami Swaroopananda.
